“Very well, Hugh the Doctor. Another time, then,” Cassius answers, the energetic buzzing slowing as his eagerness ebbs away. Not gone completely, no, because he has never acquainted himself with a doctor before – not any good ones, at least. Any person he had met that held such a title had been his Hunter’s prey, near dead as soon as he had stepped upon the scene.

(He finds they taste the same as any other.)

He does not think that Hugh the Doctor is like them in that regard, anyway. Only the bad people are made to be his Hunter’s prey, and Hugh the Doctor is so very clearly kind, so very clearly different than those corpses in hospital clothes.

Different, even, than the ones he has watched late into the night living their lives away in boxes.

(He tried to release them once, but all he found were bits of metal and cord when he pried the box apart. He did not know why the Hunter had been so exasperated, then. Still does not, perhaps.)

“You may come closer, yes, Hugh the Doctor,” Cassius says, resting a hand upon his chest as his head tilts just a hair. “Though I am not sure you will find what you are looking for. I do not have organs like you do. There is no heart to examine.”
